In gmail it is possible to view the full e-mail headers of an e-mail message by clicking show original after clicking the down arrow next to reply.

Examples of header fragments received from a yahoo e-mail account that was probably compromised and used to send unsolicited bulk e-mail (spam) to all mail addresses in the contact list:
